A name tied to a place
AMNH now places this species in Hylarana, although Chalcorana raniceps remains familiar in regional literature. It occurs in Bornean swamp forests and also the Natuna islands; strict Borneo endemism is therefore inappropriate.

AMNH · Hylarana ranicepsCalling above quiet water
The slender, often green frog has a pointed snout and conspicuous white lip stripe. Breeding uses ponds, intermittent streams and quiet side pools; researchers observed a preference for sunny edges. Males call from twigs above ground. Brightly marked tadpoles can remain visible by day, but proposed toxicity is still an inference.

Haas and colleagues / Frogs of Borneo · Hylarana raniceps adult accountA voice recorded at Bako
A Sarawak study recorded three males under the name Chalcorana raniceps, now placed in Hylarana. Its Bako example has short, loud notes, each with two pulses. The recording helps distinguish this frog from other local ranids. A measured repetition rate describes that recording, rather than a fixed rhythm for every calling male.
