Beaufort to Tenom by train

Plan the inland railway leg with the Sabah State Railway timetable.

How the connection works

The railway department identifies Beaufort–Tenom as the Gorge Line, with intermediate stations including Halogilat, Rayoh and Pangi. It is part of the public railway, distinct from the separate North Borneo Steam Train visitor service. If starting in Kota Kinabalu, check the coastal train to Beaufort and the onward connection as two legs rather than assuming a through train.

Before departure

Sabah Tourism explains that separate tickets are needed for the coastal and inland portions. Consult the current railway timetable and service notices before travelling, then confirm ticket arrangements at the relevant station. Do not build the journey around an old quoted departure time. Allow for an overnight stay in Tenom if the connection and sightseeing plans leave no sensible same-day return, and arrange transport from the station to your accommodation.
