Lahad Datu Airport and forest transfers

Lahad Datu is an air and road gateway for organised forest stays. Danum access requires separate permission and a coordinated onward vehicle.

Lahad Datu before the forest

The Danum Valley Conservation Area manager identifies Lahad Datu as the access town, reached by air from Kota Kinabalu or by road from other Sabah towns. Confirm the operating airline, route and baggage conditions for your actual date. A flight to Lahad Datu and an admission to Danum are separate arrangements; booking one does not reserve the other.

Permission and onward transport

The manager requires visitor vehicles to obtain permission through its Lahad Datu office before entering the conservation area. Use the confirmed transfer supplied by your particular host or manager; the studies centre and a private lodge are different bookings. Send your flight details and confirm the meeting point, vehicle departure and late-arrival plan. Do not interpret a road on a map as permission to drive into the protected forest.

Leave a transfer buffer

Stay in town if your arrival cannot meet the agreed forest departure. For the return flight, ask the host to confirm the vehicle plan and a realistic margin for road conditions. Carry essential medicine and rain protection with you, and use the packing instructions of the booked forest programme rather than airport facilities as your preparation plan.
