The road leg
Tawau Airport is the airport arrival point; Semporna is the coastal town where many island journeys are organised. Book a transfer to your actual hotel or agreed jetty and give the driver your flight details. Airport pickup, a town hotel pickup and a resort package are different products. Check whether a quoted transfer covers your group, luggage and arrival time, without assuming that the island boat is included.
There is more than one jetty
Sabah Tourism lists Semporna Public Jetty, Seafest Jetty and private island-resort jetties. Some private departures require advance booking and do not accept walk-ins. Use the exact meeting instructions from your licensed operator, not simply a map search for “Semporna jetty”. Check whether your activity returns to town or finishes at your island accommodation.
Leave room for weather and delays
A late flight may miss the final agreed resort boat even when the road transfer runs. Ask about the late-arrival plan and whether a mainland overnight stay is needed. On the way home, keep the boat-to-flight connection realistic and follow the diving operator’s no-fly guidance if you have been diving. Do not treat an advertised transfer duration as a guaranteed journey time.
