The experience
The route runs through the wooded botanical-garden area. Waterfall stops vary with the agreed programme and conditions. Choose the walk for its forest setting as well as the water: visiting a waterfall does not automatically mean that entering its pool is appropriate.
Gateway and accommodation
Binusan is reached from Nunukan, with the village giving approximately thirty minutes from the town centre. It is not an outing from Tarakan's mangrove park. Arrange return transport and use Nunukan accommodation or a village homestay confirmed in advance.
Time and effort
The village describes a general return walk of around two to three hours, while separate packages include longer routes. Confirm which itinerary your guide means. Do not interpret a package's easy or hard label as an independent assessment of the route or your own ability.
Arranging the visit
The village requires a local guide for the waterfall trail. Contact Pokdarwis Pagun Taka or the village tourism hosts to agree the route and current conditions. Ask what entry, guiding and refreshments cover, and whether the chosen route is currently suitable for your group.
Conditions and preparation
The published guidance warns about slippery ground and gaps in mobile reception. Use shoes with grip, bring drinking water and keep electronics dry. Do not jump into pools or enter water during high flows. Follow the guide, avoid picking plants and leave wildlife undisturbed.
Combining your trip
The Binusan mangrove boat outing at Sei Fatimah is a separate experience with its own boat and timing arrangements. Add it only after checking the day with the host, rather than squeezing it between an uncertain forest return and an onward connection.
