Sei Fatimah mangrove boat visit

Sei Fatimah offers a water-level view of Binusan's mangroves. The community visitor programme describes small-boat observation of the coastal habitat, with proboscis monkeys among the animals that may be present. Wildlife remains unpredictable.

Plan your visit

The experience

A ketinting boat brings the mangrove roots and river edges into view without treating the forest as a place to approach animals closely. Ask the guide to explain the tidal habitat and local management. Quiet observation matters more than chasing a photograph.

Gateway and accommodation

Binusan and nearby Nunukan are the practical bases. Confirm the actual boat meeting point with the host; the village road arrival and the boarding location should not be assumed to be the same. Arrange road transport back to your accommodation as well as the boat.

Time and effort

No fixed trip length is confirmed. Let the host advise a suitable departure around the tide, weather and local observation conditions. Keep room in your day for the return rather than connecting directly to an important departure. A boat excursion is separate from a waterfall hike.

Arranging the visit

Book through the village tourism hosts or Pokdarwis Pagun Taka and confirm boat, driver, guiding and passenger capacity. Ask whether lifejackets suitable for everyone are available. A village directory entry establishes the experience, not a guaranteed departure on any particular date.

Conditions and preparation

The village's guidance requires lifejackets and prohibits feeding, touching or disturbing animals. Stay seated as directed, protect equipment from spray and follow the boat driver's decisions about conditions. Never demand that the boat move closer to a monkey or enter vegetation for a better view.

Combining your trip

Combine the visit with time in Binusan if local arrangements allow. Its waterfall trails require their own guide and time allocation. This is not the same activity as walking through Tarakan's urban mangrove reserve, so plan the correct Nunukan gateway.
