The place and its context
Shiratal Mustaqiem belongs to Samarinda Seberang’s historical neighbourhood, distinct from the larger contemporary Islamic Center across the city. Official municipal reporting places it in Kelurahan Masjid. An ANTARA interview with the local tourism-awareness group describes the mosque’s ulin wood fabric and continuing community role. Read the building through that continuity rather than as an abandoned relic: people still gather, learn and worship here. The neighbourhood context matters as much as a single architectural photograph.
A considered visit
Arrange a quiet visit and ask which parts are open to non-worshipping visitors. Follow local dress requirements, remove shoes where instructed and let prayer take priority. Photograph details only where permission allows; do not lean on or handle heritage elements. Kampung Tenun can form another stop in Samarinda Seberang, but check the route and welcome arrangements separately. Past announcements about a proposed tourist jetty do not prove that a boat service or landing is operating now. Confirm actual access rather than building an itinerary around a proposal.
