The local story
The name Tuah Himba connects the museum with Tenggarong’s idea of looking after forest wealth. Its setting and collections offer a useful contrast to the palace museum: instead of court objects, attention turns to materials from the forest and their place in regional knowledge. The national museum register also records preserved crocodile specimens. These are collections in a museum, not a wildlife encounter or a forest expedition.
Planning your visit
Arrange a separate transfer to the Panji Sukarame area and check the museum’s current visiting day. Allow time to read the labels and ask which parts of the collection are accessible. Its modest scale suits a slower morning, followed by lunch nearer the Mahakam. Facilities and displays may change; plan around the museum itself rather than assuming a full recreation complex is available.
