The eastern side of the city
Pantai Manggar Segara Sari is a municipal beach destination in Balikpapan Timur. It should not be confused with Kemala’s more central setting: allow a separate road journey rather than treating the two beaches as neighbouring stops on foot. Official city and airport tourism information identifies Manggar as a local coastal recreation area. Its appeal is a relaxed stretch of coast within Balikpapan, not a promise of an isolated island landscape.
Make time for the place
Keep the programme simple: a shore walk, a break and a meal if suitable vendors are open. Check the sea and local instructions before entering the water. Any water activity needs its own assessment of conditions, equipment and supervision; a tourism listing is not a safety guarantee. Stay clear of sensitive shoreline vegetation, avoid disturbing wildlife and carry your rubbish away. Choose a shorter visit if rain or heat makes staying outdoors uncomfortable.
Plan your visit
Confirm current admission, opening and return transport before setting out. The airport’s May 2026 visitor page supplies practical information, but fees and operations can change. Leave road-transfer time around the visit instead of adding Manggar to a full central-city itinerary at the last minute.
