The local story
Pulau Kumala belongs to the Tenggarong visitor area in Timbau. The river surrounds the outing: looking towards the banks helps explain the town’s relationship with the Mahakam. The island has been developed as a recreation destination, but individual attractions have changed over time. Its enduring appeal is the island setting itself, best enjoyed at an easy pace rather than through a promised list of rides.
Planning your visit
Ask the tourism operator about current opening, access and facilities before crossing. The Repo-Repo access area is part of the local visitor landscape, but route availability and maintenance should be checked on the day. Bring water and sun or rain protection, and allow enough time to return comfortably. Do not plan around old cable-car, ride or waterpark claims without current confirmation.
