section-0
The memorial connects Bintulu with the beginnings of Sarawak’s legislative assembly under Brooke rule. A centenary stone was erected in 1967; later additions changed the surrounding memorial setting. The present monument commemorates the event: it should not be mistaken for a surviving assembly building from 1867.
section-1
Make this a short historical pause alongside the older streets, market buildings and riverfront. Looking at the working town around the memorial helps connect political history with a place that continued to change. Do not expect the scale or visitor facilities of a large museum.
section-2
Use the exact monument name when navigating and check where pedestrians may safely cross surrounding streets. Pause to read the inscription and photograph without obstructing traffic or nearby businesses. Combine the stop with a cooler-hour walk rather than planning a separate half-day around the monument alone.
