Appearance & recognition
A tall keruing tree bears broad, strongly veined leaves and conspicuous winged fruits. Two calyx lobes extend into long wings, while three remain much shorter. These wings belong to the fruiting flower, rather than being separate leaves. The tree can reach about 45 metres and forms part of the structural variety of a dipterocarp forest.

The native range includes Borneo and other parts of Southeast Asia. It grows on lowland ridges and hills, with timber used under the keruing trade name. Wood oil and resin also have material uses. A shared trade name does not erase ecological differences: Dipterocarpus lowii is a separate species with its own leaf, fruit and soil characteristics.
