A link between two provinces
The Tanjung Redeb–Tanjung Batu–Tarakan speedboat route connects Berau in East Kalimantan with Tarakan in North Kalimantan. Berau’s government recorded its launch on 17 March 2026 with SB Sadewa Sri Eva, operated by Sadewa Grup. The inaugural departure used Dermaga Wisata Sanggam in Tanjung Redeb, giving travellers a water connection between these two regional bases.
This is a passenger journey between places. It can help connect time in Berau with a North Kalimantan itinerary, but it is not an island excursion or a sightseeing cruise. Decide whether you need the complete journey or the Tanjung Batu stop, and make sure the destination printed on your ticket matches that choice.
Confirm the actual sailing
The launch announcement described departures on selected days in each direction. Ask the operator or terminal ticket office for the sailing on your intended date, including check-in time, the exact departure point and the arrival terminal in Tarakan. Do not build a tight onward connection around the original launch timetable.
Keep the vessel name and ticket contact with your accommodation details. Ask how changes or cancellations are communicated and what happens to your booking if the sailing cannot operate. Confirm payment and any terminal charges before travelling to the pier, so your transfer driver and host have the same departure information.
Baggage and boarding
Discuss luggage when reserving, especially if carrying diving equipment or several large bags. A May 2026 inspection of Sanggam specifically raised the handling of passenger luggage and freight as a practical issue. Ask about the allowance, where larger bags travel and how you will retrieve them at your chosen stop.
Keep essential documents, medicines and valuables accessible in a small protected bag. At boarding, locate the life jacket provided for you and follow the crew’s instructions. Travellers who need help with steps or moving between pier and boat should describe those needs before buying a ticket, rather than discovering the boarding arrangement on departure.
Build the rest of the trip around it
In Tanjung Redeb, arrange the road journey to Sanggam separately from any flight arrival at Kalimarau. In Tarakan, confirm the terminal before booking a hotel pickup or airport transfer. The city has several kinds of port activity, so a general instruction to meet at “the harbour” is not precise enough.
Allow a flexible overnight where necessary and avoid making an onward village visit depend on an uncertain same-day arrival. Confirm the return direction independently if you need a round trip. This route is most useful when it joins two planned regional stays, with enough space to handle the ordinary changes of a water journey.
