character
Kampung Pelangi sits in Guntung Paikat, Banjarbaru Selatan, beside the Kemuning River. Its identity comes from a riverside improvement project: public pedestrian space, places to sit and painted houses brought a different character to this densely settled neighbourhood. The national tourism-village directory describes murals that include animals and local everyday themes, not simply walls painted in a uniform rainbow.
Forest experience
Walk slowly and treat the colours as an introduction to a living neighbourhood. Public paths and seating are the appropriate places to spend time; a painted house is still somebody’s home. Look for the details of a mural, pause by the water and ask which food sellers are operating. The area has a documented culinary scene, but a listing does not mean every stall opens at the same time or that a festival will be taking place.
Planning the visit
A short visit can fit between other central Banjarbaru stops. Daylight helps you see the artwork clearly; after dark, check the actual lighting and arrange your way back rather than relying on an assumed evening programme. Keep doorways clear and ask before portraits. Rain can change the comfort of an outdoor walk, so carry protection and take care beside the water. Leave the neighbourhood as clean and usable for residents as you found it.
