character
Kebun Raya Banua is in Palam, Cempaka, within Banjarbaru’s provincial government-office area. Its documented focus includes medicinal plants and the conservation of Kalimantan flora. A botanical garden brings plants together for study and care; it should not be confused with a wild forest where every specimen grows naturally in its original habitat. Labels and interpretation are part of the experience, not merely decoration beside a photograph.
Forest experience
Choose a manageable part of the garden and look closely at several plants rather than trying to cover everything. Compare leaves, growth forms and the information supplied by the garden. The grounds also include landscaped visitor areas such as a labyrinth, providing a change of pace alongside the collections. Access to particular buildings or research spaces may differ from access to public garden paths.
Planning the visit
Check current admission arrangements before travelling. In June 2025 the provincial government announced parking at the main gate with shuttle access to the visitor zone; special events can alter these arrangements. Confirm what applies on your day instead of assuming you can drive to every area. Carry water and protection from sun and rain, leave specimens untouched and do not collect leaves or seeds. Plant displays about traditional uses are educational, not instructions to consume unfamiliar species.
