character
Guru Sekumpul, also known as KH. Zaini Abdul Ghani or Guru Ijai, remains a major figure in Martapura’s religious life. His grave is near Mushalla Ar-Raudah in the Sekumpul neighbourhood. Banjar’s tourism authority describes continuing visits by pilgrims and the importance of the annual haul, the commemoration of his death. This is an ongoing religious tradition, not a performance staged for sightseeing.
Forest experience
Visitors who are unfamiliar with the place should first ask a local host or caretaker how to approach it appropriately. Listen to the explanation of why people come and follow the directions for movement, dress and permitted areas. Give worshippers space, keep conversations quiet and avoid turning prayer or mourning into a photographic subject without permission. Observing respectfully may be more appropriate than entering every part of the complex.
Planning the visit
The annual commemoration can transform traffic and accommodation demand across the area. Check the actual dates and local arrangements rather than transferring last year’s schedule to a new visit. If your purpose is a quiet introduction to Martapura’s culture, an ordinary day may be easier to arrange. Agree on transport and meeting points before entering busy streets. Access arrangements are determined locally; this guide does not guarantee entry for every visitor or offer religious services.
