The waterfront table
Local heritage itineraries include a seafood meal around Sim Sim, where residential life and waterside businesses share the shore. Restaurants also operate elsewhere in Sandakan. The available fish and shellfish depend on supply; no single photo or menu represents every day’s catch.
Agree the price and preparation
Ask whether the price is per portion, per fish or by weight before ordering. Agree the cooking method and check whether rice, sauces and side dishes are extra. Tell staff about shellfish or other allergies rather than assuming that a plainly named fish dish contains no seafood stock or sauce.
Keep the location clear
Choose an address in Sandakan for a city meal. Sepilok is a separate area outside the urban waterfront, even when a booking platform groups both under Sandakan. Arrange the return trip if you eat away from your hotel’s neighbourhood, and give an evening meal enough time.
