Tuaran mee

Tuaran mee brings a noodle tradition from the town of Tuaran to tables elsewhere in Sabah, including Kota Kinabalu. The place-name describes its origin, not the address of every bowl.

A regional noodle tradition

Egg noodles are central to the dish. Stir-frying gives them a different character from a soup noodle bowl, while the toppings depend on the cook. Tuaran lies outside Kota Kinabalu, so a meal in the city should not be described as a visit to Tuaran itself.

Order the version that suits you

Ask what meat and other ingredients are included before ordering. Do not assume that a shared dish name guarantees a vegetarian or halal preparation. If you want to compare versions, order a modest portion first and let the noodles, seasoning and toppings speak for themselves.

Finding it in Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu food listings include Tuaran mee, so you need not travel to Tuaran simply to try the dish. Check the actual restaurant address and current menu. A photograph taken in Tuaran illustrates the regional food; its caption should preserve that location.
