An overland link between two cities
DAMRI lists Pontianak–Kuching among its international bus services. The corridor can join a West Kalimantan city stay with time in Sarawak, allowing a journey across the western part of Borneo to continue by road. It serves a different starting area from the Putussibau–Badau connection farther inland, so choose the route that fits the places you are already visiting.
For the usual Pontianak approach, discuss the Entikong–Tebedu crossing with the operator when confirming your trip. Do not treat the different border corridors as interchangeable. Your ticket, entry preparation and onward pickup should all refer to the same route and direction.
Find the correct terminal
DAMRI has identified Terminal Antar Negara Ambawang on the Pontianak side and Kuching Central Bus Station in its route information. Confirm the current boarding point for the exact ticket you buy, including the reporting time and whether an agent’s sales office is also the departure point. A city name alone is not enough for arranging a driver.
If arriving through Supadio Airport, plan the road transfer to the bus terminal as a separate stage. Compare the flight arrival with check-in requirements and allow time to collect luggage. A Pontianak overnight can be useful when the two services do not connect comfortably, and also gives you time to enjoy the city before leaving.
Prepare for the border
Check the entry conditions that apply to your nationality, passport and purpose of travel with the relevant authorities. Ask specifically about the land crossing you intend to use. Buying a bus ticket does not establish eligibility to enter either country, and a rule for local border residents should not be assumed to cover other travellers.
Keep travel documents and the booking confirmation with you rather than in inaccessible luggage. Follow the crew’s directions for leaving the bus, presenting bags and returning after formalities. Ask in advance how children, extra luggage or mobility assistance will be handled, so the travel day does not begin with unresolved practical questions.
Book the actual journey and leave time
Use DAMRI’s booking channels or a confirmed agent to check the selected date, departure, class, fare and baggage terms. Its route information notes that details can change. Keep the final confirmation and cancellation conditions, rather than using an old promotional fare or screenshot as the basis for payment.
On arrival in Kuching, continue from the actual terminal to your accommodation. Give your host a realistic arrival window, with space for traffic and border processing, and avoid an immediate flight or fixed activity. Confirm a return trip independently if needed. This bus corridor is best planned as a travel day joining two stays, with the city transfers and border steps understood before departure.
