Forest walks to waterfalls

A waterfall can be the destination of a short walk or a multiday expedition. Compare the route and return journey before choosing by the size of the falls.

How to choose

Kipungit at Poring offers a shorter approach than a Maliau Basin waterfall expedition. Kubah and Lambir have park-based forest outings, while Teraja visits involve local hosting and their own access arrangements. These are distinct choices, not interchangeable stops to add to any itinerary. Match the permitted trail, guiding, overnight plan and gateway to the time you have.

Rain can change footing and water conditions quickly. A photograph of people in a pool is not evidence that swimming is allowed or suitable today. Follow the manager’s and guide’s instructions, stay at designated viewpoints and allow time for the walk back. The forest, riverbanks and interpretation along the way are part of the visit, even when conditions limit access to the water.
