Public spaces, a new skyline
The ceremonial axis brings gardens, broad paths and government architecture into one view. Explore its public side at walking pace.

Nusantara is a place to see a capital taking shape. Walk the ceremonial axis, look across the new government quarter and leave time for Sepaku, where markets and everyday neighbourhoods give the larger territory its human scale. Two unhurried days connect public architecture, water landscapes and ordinary life. This is a developing destination: the most rewarding visit follows the places open that day.
147,427 residents across the entire designated IKN territory · BPS 2025. This is not the population of the built-up government core. Nusantara is a developing national capital, included deliberately for its national and future significance.

Combine the civic quarter with a separate drive to Sepaku Semoi reservoir. Infrastructure and landscape belong to the same changing territory.
Titik Nol recalls the symbolic beginning of Nusantara. Its story adds context to the buildings rising around the new capital.

The documentary image captures that occasion, rather than an ordinary visitor tour. Today the public axis offers a way to read the capital through paths, gardens and views of its architecture. Look beyond a single building: the spaces between them are part of the experience too.
Explore furtherMentawir nursery, inaugurated on 4 June 2024, supplies the wider story behind the capital’s planting and forest-restoration ambitions. Seedlings and nursery work are less monumental than a palace, but they show that a landscape develops over time. The photograph documents the inauguration; it does not promise unrestricted nursery visits. Read the green-city ambition as work to follow, rather than proof that restoration is already complete.

Nusantara lies in East Kalimantan, inland from Balikpapan. The new government core, Sepaku settlements and the wider designated IKN territory are different geographical scales. BPS counted 147,427 residents in the full IKN delineation in 2025; this is not the population of the newly built KIPP centre. Use Balikpapan airport as the practical commercial gateway and allow separate road journeys between visit areas.
Begin at the visitor entry point currently in use. Walk the ceremonial axis and public plaza, pause for coffee, then add Embung MBH if its visitor paths are open. Finish with Titik Nol and the story of the capital’s beginning. Keep government interiors outside the plan unless a specific visit is confirmed.
Visit Pasar Segar Sepaku for the everyday side of the wider territory, then make a separately planned drive to Sepaku Semoi reservoir. Leave time for lunch and the return transfer. Market visits, reservoir access and the airport journey are distinct legs, not a single short walk.

The wooded landscape around Titik Nol helps explain why the new capital is discussed in terms of land, water and restoration as well as architecture. The 2022 photograph records an earlier moment, not a guarantee that every slope remains unchanged. A visit can connect that historical starting point with the reservoir landscape of Sepaku Semoi, while leaving protected planting and work areas undisturbed.
There is no need to invent a signature IKN dish to enjoy eating here. Pasar Segar Sepaku brings shopping and prepared food together, while small vendors and cafés serve the public government quarter. Treat these as contemporary places to eat, not proof that every snack originated in Nusantara. Ask what is available that day, leave time for a sit-down break and use food stops to meet the everyday side of a territory with established communities.
Public access does not make every building or construction zone open. Follow staff instructions and keep to visitor areas. OIKN has stated that general entry to the public KIPP area is free; transport, meals and accommodation are separate expenses. Carry some cash as well as your usual payment method. Closed shoes and modest clothing are useful, and specific palace or worship-area rules may be stricter. IKNOW provides official visitor information; check current instructions before travelling.
