The experience
The village programme combines a boat approach with time around Camp Koran. An operator describes short forest walks of roughly one to two hours, adjusted to conditions. Peat forest rewards attention to roots, water and canopy as much as mammals. Your guide determines which paths are appropriate that day. The Bornean orangutan belongs to this forest landscape, but a recorded population is not a promise of an encounter on your visit.
Gateway and accommodation
Stay in Palangka Raya or arrange local accommodation through Kereng Bangkirai. The jetty is a departure point, not the whole national-park visit. Confirm the hotel-to-jetty transfer and the return pickup; a short waterfront boat ride is not automatically a Camp Koran package.
Time and effort
The community publishes a day programme from morning to late afternoon. Boat sections alternate with walking, so ask how much time is actually spent on forest paths. Wet ground and boarding a small boat can matter more than the distance. Allow a dedicated day rather than attaching a tight airport departure.
Arranging the visit
Contact the village tourism group or an established local guide. Its published package includes boat transport, local guiding and park entry, with hotel accommodation excluded. Obtain a current written description of meals, drinking water and any ranger arrangements. Longer visits need separate agreement; a camp does not become an unrestricted independent campsite.
Conditions and preparation
Bring shoes suitable for wet uneven ground, light rain protection and a dry bag. Sit where the boat crew directs and ask for a suitable lifejacket. Water level and weather may alter the route. Wildlife is free-ranging: do not feed, pursue or request close contact. Do not treat an operator's casual swimming suggestion as a safety assessment.
Combining your trip
Use Sebangau as the nature day within a Palangka Raya stay, leaving the city museum or market for another period. Tanjung Puting requires travel to a different gateway. Choosing between the two experiences is more useful than trying to fit both into one short visit.
